Time-Warner says data on 320,000 customers may have been hacked

(Cyberwar.news) Customers of Time-Warner are likely the latest to have their data stolen by hackers, according to an announcement by the company which said its own IT systems were likely not breached but that customer information contained on third-party servers was probably compromised.

As reported by ZDNet, Time-Warner officials said that email addresses and passwords may have fallen victim to malware installed on third-party systems. Those affected by the cyberbreach have been notified by email and direct mail, the company said.

“We have not yet determined how the information was obtained, but there are no indications that TWC’s systems were breached,” said spokesperson Eric Mangan.

“The emails and passwords were likely previously stolen either through malware downloaded during phishing attacks or indirectly through data breaches of other companies that stored TWC customer information, including email addresses,” he said.

As further reported by Reuters, the FBI has informed the cable and Internet giant that some customer account details “may have been compromised.”
